One Afflicted with Kidney Dialysis: Combining Prayers
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa No. ( 18780 )
Q: What is the ruling for those who go to the hospital for kidney dialysis? Some go before the Zuhr prayer and miss the Zuhr and 'Asr prayers, not finishing until one hour after the 'Asr prayer. Others go before 'Asr and miss the 'Asr and Maghrib prayers, finishing one hour later. What is the ruling in this matter?
A : If the situation is as the questioner described, where the procedure begins before the time of Zuhr enters, he should delay the Zuhr prayer and pray it with 'Asr as a combined delayed prayer, like other patients for whom combining is permissible.
However, if the dialysis procedure is performed after the time of Zuhr has entered and does not end until the time of the 'Asr prayer has passed, it is prescribed for the patient at that time to pray 'Asr with Zuhr as a combined advanced prayer. Likewise, if the procedure is performed before the time of Maghrib enters, he should delay it and pray it with 'Isha' as a combined delayed prayer, praying both together. But if the procedure is performed after the time of Maghrib has entered and ends during the time of 'Isha', there is no need to combine 'Isha' with Maghrib due to the ample time available for 'Isha. If he combines them as a combined advanced prayer, there is no harm, like other patients who need that. May Allah heal them. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
