Q: What is the ruling on one who enters the mosque late and crowds the worshippers in the front rows to stand behind the imam while he is late ?
A: If a Muslim comes to the Friday prayer, it is not permissible for him to step over the necks of people; because of the harm this causes to the worshippers and distracts them from
listening to the sermon, and disturbs them. In the Musnad of Imam Ahmad ,Sahih Ibn Khuzaymah 4:85 and also in (al-Musnad) and (Sunan Abu Dawud ) from 'Abdullah ibn 'Amr (may Allah be pleased with them both), from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he said: Sunan Abi Dawud 1113Hasan (Al-Albani) And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.

That a man came stepping over the necks of people, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was delivering the sermon, so he said to him: "Sit down, for you have caused harm and you have been late."
Three types of people attend Friday prayer; One is present in a frivolous way and that is all he gets from it; another comes with a supplication, Allah may grant or refuse his request as He wishes; another is present silently and quietly with-out stepping over a Muslim or annoying anyone, and that is an atonement for his sins till the next Friday and three days more, the reason being that Allah, the Exalted, says: "He who does a good deed will have ten times as much" (vi.160).
