Q : I request your fatwa regarding this tape featuring the voice of Jum'a Jum'a Jadd Allah, a teacher in the Department of Qur'anic Studies, on which is recited the Burdah of al-Busiri . I should note that when I heard it, I did not recognize it due to certain words that indicate excessive praise of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), as well as exaggeration regarding him. This tape is heard by many of the Shaykh's admirers, who record it and pass it from one to another. It may be distributed in this country, which we are accustomed to spreading good in and avoiding everything that is doubtful. For your knowledge, when I advised him that this Burdah contains excessive praise and exaggeration, he did not heed me and said: "The religion is easy, and no one can contend with the religion except that he will be overcome." I ask you to clarify the ruling on this tape, and is it permissible
to listen to it or not?
A : The Permanent Committee has studied the aforementioned inquiry and reviewed the content of the attached tape. It responded that the tape in question is not permissible to publish or circulate because of the exaggerations in praising the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and the unlegislated supplications it contains, whether in the verses of the Burdah included in this tape or in the two other poems recorded alongside the Burdah verses. These are samples from the three poems contained in the tape, through which the exaggerations in praising the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and the unlegislated supplications in those poems become apparent. The first poem is the Burdah of al-Busiri , whom the owner of the tape described as an Imam. It is not hidden what this description implies of vouching for him and his poem, despite the violations and elements of shirk (associating partners with Allah) contained in it. The owner of the tape has deleted a large portion of it. Among what was recorded is:
The second poem is al-Mudariyyah, and the owner of the tape did not mention its author, but was content with saying: "By the poet." Among what is contained in it is:
The third poem is al-Muhammadiyyah, and its author was not mentioned. Among what is contained in it is:
Although some of the shirk verses contained in the Burdah have been deleted from this tape, the deletion of those verses does not justify its publication for the reasons mentioned above.
