Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The first question of Fatwa No. ( 20244 )
Q 1: A man prayed at his workplace wearing his usual shoes,
which he wears at all times, except that there was no visible impurity or harm on the soles of his shoes, so what is the ruling on his prayer while wearing the shoes?

A 1: If a man prays while wearing his shoes, his prayer is valid; due to the indication of the authentic hadiths regarding the permissibility of praying in sandals, and among that is that Anas ibn Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) was asked:
Did the Prophet (ﷺ) use to offer the prayers with his shoes on?" He said, "Yes."أكان النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم يصلي في نعليه؟ قال: نعم
Sahih al-Bukhari 5850
It was narrated by al-Bukhari and Muslim in (their Sahihs), and it was narrated by the Imam Ahmad in (al-Musnad), and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) encouraged praying in sandals and leather socks, and what indicates that is what was narrated by Shaddad ibn Aws (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Act differently from the Jews, for they do not pray in their sandals or their shoes.خالفوا اليهود فإنهم لا يصلون في نعالهم ولا خفافهم
Sunan Abi Dawud 652Sahih (Al-Albani)
It was narrated by Abu Dawud in (his Sunan), and it is established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he prayed barefoot and wearing sandals, which indicates the permissibility of both, and what indicates that is what was narrated by the Imam Ahmad and Abu Dawud and Ibn Majah with a good chain, from 'Amr ibn Shu'ayb from his father from his grandfather, that he said:
he had seen God’s Messenger praying both barefoot and wearing sandalsرأيت رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم يصلي حافيًا ومنتعلاً
Mishkat al-Masabih 769
But whoever wants to pray in his sandals, it is obligatory for him to ensure that there is no impurity on them, if they are pure he prays in them, otherwise he removes them and eliminates the impurity from them, and what indicates that is what was narrated by Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him), that he said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
When any of you comes to the mosque, he should see; if he finds filth on his sandals, he should wipe it off and pray in them.إذا جاء أحدكم إلى المسجد فلينظر، فإن رأى في نعليه قذرًا أو أذى، فليمسحه وليصل فيهما
Sunan Abi Dawud 650Sahih (Al-Albani)
It was narrated by the Imam Ahmad and Abu Dawud .
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
