Q:Kissing the thumbs when hearing the name of the master of the prophets, our master Muhammad the Chosen One (peace and blessings be upon him), especially during the adhan, is this from the Sunnah or is it a bid'ah (religious innovation)? And explain to us the hadith that was narrated to us from the Companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) thatAbu Bakr al-Siddiq(may Allah be pleased with him) used to kiss his thumbs when hearing the adhan and hearing the name and its beauty. Is this hadith authentic or not? And explain to us the ruling on kissing the thumbs during the adhan and hearing his name, may Allah reward you with the best reward.
A: Kissing the thumbs when hearing the name of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) in the adhan or otherwise is an innovation with no basis. It is established that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:Sahih Muslim 1718b meaning: it is returned to its doer. As for what is attributed to Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him), we do not know of any basis for it. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
