Fatwa No. ( 19110 )
Q: We receive many questions about enumerating the beautiful names of Allah , especially those listed in some of the wording of the hadith of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him),
via al-Walid ibn Muslim and 'Abd al-'Aziz ibn al-Husayn and others, and is it correct to assert that those names are among His names, the Exalted? The most problematic of them are the following: (al-Abd, al-Badi', al-Baqi, al-Ba'ith, al-Bar, al-Burhan, al-Jalil, al-Hannan, al-Da'im, al-Rafi', al-Shadid, al-Rashid, al-Sadiq, al-Sabur, al-'Adl, al-'Alam, al-Fattar, al-Fard, al-Qadim, al-Kafi, al-Kafil, al-Mughni, al-Muhsi, al-Muntaqim, al-Mubdi, al-Mu'id, al-Mughith, al-Muhyi, al-Mumit, al-Malik, al-Mudbir, al-Nur, al-Wali, al-Wafi, al-Waqi, al-Khafid, al-Rafi', al-Mu'ti, al-Mani', al-Nafi', al-Mu'izz, al-Mudhill). These names are found in many books and are repeated by many tongues, and are even printed on small cards that some people read after the prayers. I hope you will inform us with what is sufficient and adequate in clarifying the truth regarding these names, and is it permissible to use them in names of servitude, such as 'Abd al-Baqi, 'Abd al-Da'im, 'Abd al-Badi', 'Abd al-Jalil, and the like? May Allah reward you with good.
A: All of the names of Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, are beautiful, and it is authentic from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):Jami` at-Tirmidhi 3508Sahih (Darussalam), and the meaning of enumerating them is knowing them, knowing their meanings, believing in them, and worshipping Allah in accordance with their implications. No authentic hadith exists that specifies them. Based on this, they are taken from the Noble Qur'an and from what is authentic from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) in the hadiths; because they are
based on divine revelation, so nothing is established from them except by valid evidence from the Book and the authentic Sunnah. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad and his family and his Companions.

Indeed, Allah has ninety-nine Names, whoever counts them shall enter Paradise.
