The third question of Fatwa No. ( 5318 )
Q3: Allah the Exalted says:[Al-A'raf 7:180] What is the right of the one who calls upon Allah by His Most Beautiful Names? Does he seek nearness to Him by ten of His names, or more, or does he seek nearness by the name that necessitates the desired outcome appropriate for its attainment?
A3: Calling upon Allah by His Most Beautiful Names and seeking nearness to Him through them is prescribed; for Allah the Exalted said: "And to Allah belong the Most Beautiful Names, so invoke Him by them." And because it is established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said:Sunan Ibn Majah 3860Hasan (Darussalam) , and the one who calls upon Allah may seek nearness to Him by any of His Most Beautiful Names, by which He described Himself, or by which His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) named Him, and if
he chooses from them what is appropriate to his request, that is better, such as: "O Rescuer, rescue me," and "O Merciful, have mercy on me," "My Lord, forgive me and have mercy on me, for You are the Oft-Forgiving, the Most Merciful." And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
