The first question of Fatwa No. ( 14735 )


Q1: Is there a supplication to drive showing off (riya') out of a person, especially in prayer?
A1 : If a person is afflicted with whispers in prayer, let him seek refuge in Allah from Satan; for Allah the Exalted said:
And if there comes to you from Satan an evil suggestion, then seek refuge in Allah. Indeed, He is the Hearing, the Knowing.وَإِمَّا يَنْـزَغَنَّكَ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ نَـزْغٌ فَاسْتَعِذْ بِاللَّهِ إِنَّهُ هُوَ السَّمِيعُ الْعَلِيمُ
[Fussilat 41:36]
, and let him continue in his prayer and not pay attention to the whispers or showing off, whether someone sees him or no one sees him. Let him make himself feel that he is praying for Allah as Allah has commanded, by perfecting the bowing and prostration, and not pay attention to Satan’s deception of him that his deed is showing off. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
