Fatwa number ( 13372 )
Q: In an agricultural pond in our town, there is a very large tree, so large that it occupies a qirat of land, and its root area is three meters; this is because it has been left since ancient times and not cut down. The owner of the agricultural pond tried to cut it down, but he could not, because his hand would become paralyzed (stop or go numb) when he tried to cut it. The news spread that this tree is a blessed tree, and what made the situation worse was that a woman who was gathering firewood in this pond went to this tree and tied a bundle of its dry herbs, and she was unable to walk or move any part of her body until she placed those herbs next to the tree as they were. From this, all people have known since ancient times that this tree is blessed, so they made vows to it and sought nearness to Allah through it under a sign hanging on it, which reads "The Tree of Sayyid Abu Najah," and people began to circumambulate this tree and seek blessing from it. Do we Muslims have the right to cut down this tree? Knowing that this tree has very few worshippers left, and that this tree is not
guarded, and that the owner of the agricultural pond where this tree is located is trying to cut it down, but has not been able to due to the actions of the jinn. The reason for sending this message to your eminence is that some Muslims said: this tree should be cut down immediately, while others said: this tree is not worshipped by many, and that we should turn ourselves away from it, so that we can devote ourselves to da'wah. Your eminence's fatwa will be the end of the disagreement, if Allah wills.

A: It is obligatory for you to seek help from Allah (Exalted and Majestic is He), and to cut down the aforementioned tree; because of the severing of the root of shirk (associating partners with Allah) and its means leading to it that is in doing so. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
