May Allah reward you. We said, O Shaykh, that major shirk is a cause of eternal abode in the Fire. What is the ruling on major shirk, and is it obligatory for its perpetrator to enter the Fire?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : May Allah reward you. We said, O Shaykh, that major shirk is a cause of eternal abode in the Fire. What is the ruling on minor shirk, and is it obligatory for its perpetrator to enter the Fire?

The Shaykh : It is not a cause of eternal abode. This is based on the saying of Allah the Exalted:
Indeed, Allah does not forgive association with Him إن الله لا يغفر أن يشرك به
[An-Nisa 4:48]
Is this shirk general or absolute? If we say it is general, then shirk, even if it is minor, is not forgiven. This is the choice of Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah (may Allah have mercy on him).
