Oath by Allah the Exalted (Glorified and Exalted is He) that he will not buy a television set

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The first question of Fatwa number ( 3475 )
Q1: There is a man who swore by Allah the Exalted (Glorified and Exalted is He) that he would not buy a television set for the rest of his life ; because
misunderstandings arose between this man and his wife, and she went to her parents' house, and he has children with her, some of whom are ten months old, and the second is two and a half years old, and she refused to return to her husband unless the device was in the house, so what is your opinion on that?

A1: If he does not buy the television, there is no blame on him, and no expiation of an oath is required of him. If he buys it, he breaks his oath and he owes an expiation of an oath, which is: feeding ten poor people from the middle of what he feeds his family, and it suffices to give them five sa' (a dry measure of about 3 kg) of wheat, dates, rice, corn, or the like of what his family eats, half a sa' (a dry measure of about 3 kg) for each of the ten, or clothing ten poor people, or freeing a believing slave. If he cannot do so, he fasts three days, and it is better if they are consecutive. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad and his family and his Companions.
