The oath of immersion does not require expiation

The first question of fatwa number ( 11815 )
Q1: I am a student at a Salafi institute for the Muhammadian Ansar al-Sunnah Group in Kassala, and there is an Islamic union for students of Eritrea, and there are major differences between the union and the group, so activity with them is prohibited, and I have participated with them. When the institute supervisor learned of this, he asked me: Are you in the union? I said to him: No. He forced me to swear an oath, so I swore based on a possibility, but I did not verify the possibility I acted upon. Is this oath an oath of immersion, or does it require expiation? Knowing that if I had not been forced, I would not have sworn, and I considered it a dire necessity; because if I had not believed him, he would have rejected me from the institute, so I did this to preserve knowledge.
A1: The oath you mentioned is called the oath of immersion, and it is one of the major sins. Expiation does not benefit in it due to the greatness of its sin, and expiation is not obligatory in it according to the correct opinion of the scholars; rather, repentance and seeking forgiveness are obligatory in it. So you must repent and seek forgiveness from it. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
