Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The first question of fatwa number ( 5124 )
Q1: A - Is it permissible to spend money in the election of the imam to obtain the position of imamah ? B - If we know that the imam spent his money to obtain the imamah, is it permissible to follow him in prayer , and do we consider him an open sinner or not? C - Is it forbidden to take that money.
D - Is that money charity or a bribe?

A1: A - It is not permissible for a Muslim to spend money for those responsible for electing an imam for prayer so that he succeeds in that election and is appointed as an imam for people in prayer while there is someone more deserving than him or equal to him. B - If a person among the worshippers knows that a man spent money to win the imamah, it is disliked for him to pray behind him if he can change it or if he can pray behind someone better than him among the imams without causing fitnah or harm; because that imam is an open sinner by paying money to win the imamah. C - It is forbidden to take the money spent for the purpose mentioned, absolutely. D - The money spent for the purpose mentioned is not charity, but it is a bribe. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
