Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The first question of Fatwa No. ( 1749 )
Q1: Is it permissible for a mosque imam to refuse to lead the prayer while he is present in the mosque?
A1: It is not permissible for the mosque imam to refuse to lead the people in prayer as imam while he is with them in the mosque, except for an excuse or a legitimate religious reason that necessitates appointing someone else to lead in his place. In that case, he should appoint someone qualified to lead the prayer and pray as a follower himself. He may also appoint someone else whom he considers more deserving of leading than himself without finding an excuse for himself, but this is motivated by his concern for having the best person lead, and it is not considered a refusal to lead. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
from himself, but he is motivated by the desire to have the most capable person lead the prayer, and this is not considered a refusal of the imamah. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
