Fatwa number ( 16443 )
Q: I am a young man from Algeria, I was a boxer, and I still practice it professionally,
and now I have become a coach for this sport. I have a deep question, which is that I have no knowledge of the Islamic ruling on this sport. I ask you to inform me and my brothers in the city of Djelfa about this type of sport: is it lawful or forbidden, and what is the Islamic evidence for that? I also inform you that I receive a monthly salary in exchange for teaching young people
.

A : Boxing is not permissible because of the dangers it poses to a person. Allah the Exalted says:
and do not throw [yourselves] with your [own] hands into destruction [by refraining]وَلاَ تُلْقُوا بِأَيْدِيكُمْ إِلَى التَّهْلُكَةِ
[Al-Baqarah 2:195]
, and He says, Glorified and Exalted is He:
And do not kill yourselves [or one another]. Indeed, Allah is to you ever Merciful.وَلاَ تَقْتُلُوا أَنْفُسَكُمْ إِنَّ اللَّهَ كَانَ بِكُمْ رَحِيمًا
[An-Nisa 4:29]
. Therefore, boxing involves great harm without any predominant benefit, and what is such is forbidden. It is obligatory for you to abandon this harmful sport and turn to what is beneficial. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
