Sufficing with a hand gesture when greeting
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The first question of Fatwa number ( 17248 )
Q 1: What is the ruling on making the hand gesture a symbol for greeting ?
Volume 1: The greeting of peace must be made with the words, not with a gesture; because this is the greeting of the Jews , and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade it, except if the person being greeted is far away or is deaf and cannot hear, in which case he gestures with his hand while saying the greeting. And success is from Allah; and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
