Eating Feseekh
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The fourth question of Fatwa No. ( 4129 )
Q4: We have in Egypt a dish called (feseekh), which consists of fish that is covered with quantities of salt and then exposed to the sun until it dries out. After that, it is placed in barrels for a period of time and then sold. Some people have gone to the extent of forbidding it on the grounds that it becomes rotten. What is the truth in this matter?
A4: Eating feseekh is lawful; because the original ruling for things is permissibility, and we do not know of any evidence that lifts this original ruling in this case. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
