Removing the Extra Finger
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa No. ( 5934 )
Q: I have a small child who is four years old. Since his birth, he has had a small extra pinky finger next to the fifth finger (the pinky) on both of his hands—this is Allah’s (Glorified and Exalted is He) creation. I would like to seek your opinion, may Allah preserve you, regarding performing a surgical operation to remove the extra finger on both of his hands. I ask and beseech your eminence to answer me in writing and inform me, may Allah reward you, about this from the perspective of Islamic law.
A: It is not permissible to perform the surgical operation to remove your son’s two extra fingers unless it is known that their removal will not result in harm; in that case, it is permissible. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
