The questioner : This, O Shaykh, is a practical application of moving the finger in the tashahhud?

The Shaykh : The most correct opinion among us regarding moving the finger is that it is moved every time a person makes a supplication. For example: "O Allah, forgive me" — he raises his finger — "and have mercy on me" — he raises his finger — he raises his finger for every supplicatory phrase. In the tashahhud: "Peace be upon you, O Prophet," there is supplication — he raises his finger — "Peace be upon us and upon the righteous servants of Allah" — he raises his finger. "O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad" — he raises his finger. "O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad" — he raises his finger. "I seek refuge in Allah from the punishment of the Hellfire" — he raises his finger. "And from the punishment of the grave" — he raises it. The point is that he raises his finger at every, at every supplication. For this reason, the hadith came:
He used to move it and supplicate with it كان يحركها يدعو بها
. The meaning is clear, because he raises it to whom? To Allah (Mighty and Majestic), whom he is supplicating to. Yes.
