What is Zuhd
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The third question of Fatwa No. ( 7519 )
Q3: What is Zuhd , is Zuhd wearing patched clothes, fasting for a lifetime, and distancing oneself from society, or is it something else? If it is something else, what is the evidence?
A3: Zuhd is not wearing patched clothes, nor isolating oneself from people and distancing oneself from society, nor fasting for a lifetime; for the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) is the master of the ascetics, and he used to wear new clothes, adorn himself for delegations and in gatherings and festivals, mix with people, call them to good, and teach them matters of their religion, and he used to forbid his Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) from fasting for a lifetime. Rather, Zuhd is abstaining from what is forbidden and what Allah the Exalted dislikes, avoiding displays of luxury and excess in the pleasures of this world, turning to the performance of acts of obedience, and provisioning for the Hereafter with the best provision. And the best interpretation of it is the practical biography of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
