The Door of Repentance Is Open

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The second question of Fatwa No. ( 4321 )
Q 2: Is the door of repentance open to anyone, at any time, no matter what they have done? A person may have committed a sin of the kind that will surely be exposed one day, no matter how far in the future, and the person’s affair will be revealed. If this person repents of his sin and commits to prayer, zakah, and fasting, and feels severe remorse for his sin, spending his night in weeping and tormenting his conscience, and spending his day trying to escape from himself and its torment, yet he does not attempt suicide to relieve himself of the disgrace, and he has strong faith in Allah, and he consoles himself that Allah will not expose him, is there repentance for such a person? Is it possible that Allah will cover him and not expose him, and that no one will know what he did? Can this person trust in that?
A 2: If a person is sincere in his repentance from his sin, even if it was shirk (associating partners with Allah), zina (unlawful sexual intercourse), murder, or consuming wealth unjustly, and he regrets what has passed of his sin, and returns the rights to their owners or they forgive him, and follows that with righteous deeds, then Allah turns to him in mercy and forgives his sin. Indeed, He replaces his evil deeds with good ones. Allah the Exalted said, describing His righteous servants:
(68) And those who do not invoke with Allah another deity or kill the soul which Allah has forbidden [to be killed], except by right, and do not commit unlawful sexual intercourse. And whoever should do that will meet a penalty. (69) Multiplied for him is the punishment on the Day of Resurrection, and he will abide therein humiliated - (70) Except for those who repent, believe and do righteous work. For them Allah will replace their evil deeds with good. And ever is Allah Forgiving and Merciful. (71) And he who repents and does righteousness does indeed turn to Allah with [accepted] repentance.
[Al-Furqan 25:68-71]

And He said:
Say to those who have disbelieved [that] if they cease, what has previously occurred will be forgiven for themقُلْ لِلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا إِنْ يَنْتَهُوا يُغْفَرْ لَهُمْ مَا قَدْ سَلَفَ
[Al-Anfal 8:38]
And He said:
Say, "O My servants who have transgressed against themselves [by sinning], do not despair of the mercy of Allah. Indeed, Allah forgives all sins. Indeed, it is He who is the Forgiving, the Merciful."
[Az-Zumar 39:53]
And He affirmed the saying of Ya'qub to his sons:
and despair not of relief from Allah. Indeed, no one despairs of relief from Allah except the disbelieving people."
[Yusuf 12:87]
and other verses to that effect, as well as the hadiths in their meaning that were transmitted regarding the exhortation to repentance and hope in the mercy and forgiveness of Allah. The door of repentance remains open until the sun rises from the west, or until the state of dying and the treatment of the death throes. Therefore, whoever commits a sin must repent to Allah, feel remorse for what has passed, return rights to their owners, or seek their pardon for them, and think well of Allah and hope for His mercy. Even if his sin is the greatest of sins, His mercy, Exalted is He, is more vast, and His forgiveness
is more comprehensive. He must conceal himself with the covering of Allah, hoping that Allah will cover him and not expose him. And Allah is the One to be sought for aid. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
