Eating with Silver and Gold Spoons
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The second question of Fatwa No. ( 7301 )
Q2: Is it permissible for a Muslim to eat with spoons and forks made of silver, or coated with a thin layer of silver, given that some Muslims who have entered Islam possess such items and wish to keep them because they do not rust, or because they currently cannot afford to throw them away? What about pens?
A2: It is forbidden to eat with spoons and forks made of silver or gold, or coated with either. If the reason for using such items made of silver or gold is that they do not rust, there are other metals and materials that do not rust. Moreover, there are well-known treatments available to people, even the common folk, to prevent rust on metals. Therefore, there is no necessity to use the aforementioned silver or gold items. Accordingly, anyone who possesses such items must dispose of them in a way that does not cause them to lose their value.
