Oath by divorce to slaughter for his guest, and the guest’s oath by divorce not to slaughter
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The seventh question of Fatwa number ( 16053 )
Q 7: A man had a relative come to him after he had undergone a surgical operation, so he swore by divorce that his guest’s slaughtered animal would die. But the guest also swore by divorce that he would not taste it. So does the first man — who swore that the guest’s slaughtered animal would die — slaughter it and distribute it among
the poor and the needy, or is there an expiation for the oath he swore?
A 7: The one who swore by divorce to slaughter a sheep to honor his relative and did not slaughter it — he must expiate the oath, which is: feeding ten poor people, or clothing them, giving each poor person a garment, or freeing a slave. If he finds none of these three, he fasts for three days; because an oath by divorce, if one does not intend to effect the divorce, takes the ruling of an oath. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
