What is the ruling on writing the Qur'an on a wall or hanging verses from the Noble Qur'an, and what is the ruling on writing the Basmalah on the blackboard at the beginning of a lesson?

The questioner : What is the ruling on writing the Qur'an on a wall or hanging verses from the Noble Qur'an? And what is the ruling on writing the Basmalah on the blackboard at the beginning of a lesson?

The Shaykh : Yes. As for hanging the Qur'an or writing it on walls, this is not the way of the Salaf (may Allah be pleased with them). And the one who writes it is asked: Why did you write it? Do you want it to be read? It is known that the person sitting there does not read it except for the sake of looking at it only; he does not read it as an act of worship. Is it for the sake of seeking blessing? Seeking blessing in this manner is a religious innovation. Is it for the sake of protection, since it is reported? Likewise, seeking protection by the Qur'an in this manner is not reported. Is it for the sake of advice? The general rule is that people do not pay attention to it. Let us give an example for this: if one writes the verse:
or backbite each other وَلا يَغْتَبْ بَعْضُكُمْ بَعْضًا
[Al-Hujurat 49:12]
Does the person sitting there, when he reads the verse, become wary of backbiting and stop? Then, is there backbiting in every gathering? If some gatherings do not have backbiting, what is the benefit of writing the verse? If the people of the gathering do not care about backbiting, then this written or hung verse has not benefited them.
In any case, it is sufficient for us to say in this matter: Hanging the Noble Qur'an on walls or writing it on walls is not the way of the righteous Salaf, and the end of this Ummah will not be reformed except by what reformed its beginning. The second part?

The questioner : He says writing the Basmalah on the blackboard; he is a teacher.

The Shaykh : Yes. As for writing the Basmalah on the blackboard, if something is to be written on the blackboard, then it is good. But if nothing is to be written on the blackboard, then there is no benefit in it, and most blackboards are behind the teacher when he stands to teach. Yes.
