Obedience to the Father in Removing the Face Veil

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The first question of Fatwa No. ( 6105 )
Q1: I enrolled in the Faculty of Arts, Department of Arabic Language, and I was wearing the niqab. This was during the break, meaning before the faculties opened. But as you know, what happened in Egypt in September 1981 CE, the niqab was banned in the faculties. I had worn it without my father’s and mother’s approval after I explained to them that it is obligatory, based on (Tafsir Ibn Kathir ), (Risalat al-Safur wa al-Hijab), (Tafsir Ayat al-Ahkam), (Ahkam al-Nisa'), and many other books. Whenever I found evidence, I told them, but they did not agree, so I wore it without their consent. Now that I am enrolled in the faculty, my father does not want me to stay at home, nor does he want me to go to the faculty. He considers the niqab to be an extra, not an obligation, and wants me to remove it. Sometimes he speaks to me calmly and negotiates, and other times he threatens to remove it by force. I am confused about what to do? Does taking the final exam at the end of the year constitute a necessity that would allow me to remove the niqab during this period, or not? And if I do not listen to my father’s words, will I be sinful toward him? And if taking the exam is not a necessity, what should I do to convince my father?

A1: Taking the exam is not a necessity that permits removing the niqab. Wearing the niqab is obligatory, and there is no obedience to your father in his command for you to leave off the niqab; because there is no obedience to a created being in disobedience to the Creator. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
