Q: I inform your Eminence that I am a woman living next to one of the mosques in al-Dammam , and that the mosque is a congregational mosque, and that, praise be to Allah, I perform the prayer in
its times, and I am moderate in knowledge and understanding. I heard the imam of the mosque, through the loudspeaker, say: Three things break the prayer: the woman, the black dog, and the donkey . I do not know about the authenticity of this hadith; how is the woman linked with the donkey and the dog? Is she ritually impure? Please inform us, may Allah reward you with the best reward.
A: First: It is obligatory for the Muslim to submit to the rulings of the Shari'ah, whether he understands the wisdom behind them or not. Second: The woman is not ritually impure, but some scholars have sought a cause for the woman breaking the prayer, which is: that the woman tempts the man. Third: The hadith is authentic from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), that these three things break the prayer if they pass in front of the one praying, if he does not have a sutrah, or between him and his sutrah. So it is obligatory to submit to the ruling of Allah and act upon it. The meaning of breaking: invalidating the prayer, in the most correct of the scholars' opinions. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
