Fatwa No. ( 10483 )
Q: Referring to your response number (2910\2) regarding our inquiry registered with you under number (2550), we inform you that the village is not in the Kingdom, but rather in Hadramaut, and the court has no connection to it, as the construction is at the private expense of the village's sons. What we seek information on is: the fate of the old mosque in the event of building the new mosque and no longer needing the old one, is it permissible to abandon the mosque, or if there is no need for it, is it permissible to demolish its structure and benefit from its land by selling it to place the value in the interest of good? Please inform us, may Allah reward you with good, and thank you.
A: The old mosque is to be sold at a public auction, and its price is to be spent on building the new mosque, or on building other mosques. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
