The questioner : What is the prescribed manner of tayammum?
The Shaykh : The prescribed manner of tayammum is for a person to intend that he wants to perform tayammum, based on the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):Sahih al-Bukhari 1, then he strikes the ground with his hands in one strike, and wipes his face and his palms with them. With this, his tayammum is complete and he becomes pure. This tayammum permits him what is permitted by purifying oneself with water, because when Allah (Mighty and Majestic) mentioned tayammum, He said: [Al-Ma'idah 5:6] Thus, Allah the Exalted made it clear that a person becomes pure through tayammum. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Sunan Ibn Majah 567Sahih (Darussalam), and "al-tahur" (with an open fatha) is that by which one purifies oneself. For this reason, the stronger opinion among the views of the scholars is that tayammum removes the state of ritual impurity as long as the person has not found water. Therefore, it is permissible for him, once he has performed tayammum, to pray as many obligatory and voluntary prayers as he wishes, and his state of ritual impurity is removed, so it does not become invalid by the passing of the time. For example, if he performs tayammum for the Zuhr prayer and no state of ritual impurity occurs in him until the time for 'Asr enters, he may pray the 'Asr prayer with that tayammum. And if he performs tayammum for major ritual impurity for the first time, he does not repeat the tayammum for it again, but he only performs tayammum for the ablution.
The questioner : May Allah reward you.
The Shaykh : The prescribed manner of tayammum is for a person to intend that he wants to perform tayammum, based on the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
The reward of deeds depends upon the intentions and every person will get the reward according to what he has intended.
إنما الأعمال بالنيات، وإنما لكل امرئ ما نوىAllah does not intend to make difficulty for you, but He intends to purify you and complete His favor upon you that you may be grateful.
