Postponing the repayment of a loan
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa number ( 11147 )
Q: A group of colleagues get together, and each one of them pays an amount of money from one month's salary, for example. This amount is given to one of them on the condition that he pays the same amount to another one from the second month's salary, and so on until everyone has received it. The choice of the person who will receive the amount for each month is either by lottery, or by who has the greatest need for the amount, or by any other criterion they agree upon. This is what we ask, and we ask Allah to guide the Muslims to what He loves and is pleased with.
A: We do not know of any harm in that; because the benefit is shared without any religious prohibition, and the most that is involved in that is the postponement of the repayment of the loan, and there is nothing wrong with that according to the stronger of the two opinions of the scholars.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
