Repaying a loan in a currency other than the one borrowed
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The second question of Fatwa No. ( 6903 )
Q2: I borrowed some money from a person (French currency) on the condition that I would return it to him in France, but when he came to Algeria, he asked me to give him Algerian dinars with an increase. What is the ruling on that?
A2: It is permissible to repay him in Algeria with the same amount in French currency, or with the equivalent in Algerian currency at the exchange rate on the day of repayment, provided that possession is taken before the parties separate. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
