Taking from the funds of donations, charity, and zakah
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa number ( 13123 )
Q: I am a man who used to collect donations and charity from people and zakah. I was a man with no income, so I used to take from these funds. I have since regretted taking these funds and repented to Allah, the Exalted, from taking anything after that. When I calculated what I had taken, I found it to be 68,000 riyals. I am now afraid of Allah regarding the sin of these funds, so I ask Allah, then you, to inform me what I should do. Should I inform the owners of these funds of what I did, or should I pay these funds back in installments according to my salary, which is 1,500 riyals? Is there zakah on them? Please inform us, may Allah reward you with good.
A: It is obligatory for you to deliver the funds you took to the people from whom you collected them, along with repentance to Allah, Mighty and Majestic. If you are unable to return them to their owners, give them in charity to the poor to the extent of your ability. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
