The sixth question of Fatwa No. ( 19314 )
Q6: Is it permissible for a person who has debts, but whose salary is good, to donate an amount of approximately ten thousand riyals? He fears missing the opportunity for this charity, which is establishing a Qur'an memorization school. Please answer us. May Allah reward you with good for Islam and the Muslims.
A6: Taking the initiative to clear one's conscience of debts takes precedence over voluntary charity, unless the debt is not yet due and he has money exceeding the amount of the debt; in that case, he may donate what exceeds the debt. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
