The first question of Fatwa No. ( 8256 )
Q1: If a person has wrongs in the form of debts,
and his current capabilities do not allow him to return the wrongs, and he intends to return those wrongs as soon as it is permitted, knowing that the owners of those wrongs (debts) are not in the same country as him, and if, for example, he obtains money and is afraid for his life due to fitnah (trial, discord or temptation), and wishes to marry should he prioritize marriage or the return of the wrongs?
A1: It is obligatory to prioritize the return of wrongs, such as debts, over marriage, unless the owners of the debts permit him to prioritize marriage over settling his debts, in which case it is permissible. As for his fear of fitnah (trial, discord or temptation) for himself, he should fast to protect himself from it; based on the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):Mishkat al-Masabih 3080 .
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
