Naming Oneself with the Name "Qasam Allah"
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa No. ( 6100 )
Q: I am a Sudanese young man, my name is (Qasam Allah) , and I do not know if my name is from the root of "qasam" meaning to divide, in which case it is divided, or from the root of "qasam" meaning to give, or derived from the meaning of a share or portion. In any case, I do not know, but the strange thing, and the reason that made me knock on your door, is that my colleagues at the office told me: your name contains shirk (associating partners with Allah). Therefore, I seek your fatwa in this matter.
A: "Qasam Allah" means: the gift of Allah; because "qasam" means: a gift, and it is the verbal noun of "qasama" (to give), and there is no shirk (associating partners with Allah) in this, nor any religious prohibition. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
