The Ruling on a Bank Employee Leading the Prayer
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa No. ( 5259 )
Q: An employee works in a bank that deals in riba (usury or interest). Is the prayer valid behind him?
A: Working in a bank that deals in riba (usury or interest) is forbidden, and the one who does it is a sinner against Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He). However, the prayer behind him is valid; because he is a Muslim whose prayer is valid in itself if he fulfills its conditions and what Allah has made obligatory in it, according to the stronger of the scholars' opinions. And if it is easy to pray behind someone else from among the people of righteousness and piety, that is better. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
