How to Calculate the Zakah of the Two Currencies
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The fourth question of Fatwa No. ( 4352 )
Q4: How do we pay zakah on our money? Because the Shari'ah mentions dirhams and says: whoever finds two hundred of them, zakah is obligatory upon him. This number is far more than two hundred French francs. We have not known the details of this work in numerical calculation.
A4: The way to know the nisab of zakah in French currency is to weigh French silver currency at one hundred and forty mithqals. Whatever reaches this weight is the nisab. Then know the value of that nisab in the paper currency in use today, and pay out a quarter of a tenth of it, meaning 25 out of every one thousand francs. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
