The ruling on performing wudu' while a barrier prevents water from reaching the skin

Machine translationRead the Arabic original

The first question of fatwa number ( 4511 ) Q 1: Since I work in a fish market, this results in small and large fish scales sticking to my hands and other areas. Given that fish scales are very transparent, when they stick to the hand or any other place, they are difficult to see with the naked eye. This prevents water from reaching the areas required for wudu'. Please note that I leave the house at around nine in the morning, and the work continues, or nearly so, until shortly before the midday prayer. It is difficult for me to maintain wudu' during the work period. I have tried to remove the scales from the areas of wudu', but this takes a long time, about ten minutes, considering the difficulty of seeing the scales with the naked eye due to their resemblance to the skin in those areas. I do my utmost in this regard, but after finishing the prayer, I discover other scales still stuck to my hand. I have started wearing
a glove on my hand of the type used in kitchens; because it is thicker than the glove used in surgical operations, as the latter cannot withstand the strain of the work. However, the former affects the fingers, making them almost frozen, as if they were placed in very cold water, which hinders the work.

A 1: Praise be to Allah alone, and blessings and peace be upon His Messenger, his family, and his Companions.. And to proceed: If the matter is as you described, it is obligatory to remove the fish scales stuck to your hands when performing wudu', and your wudu' is not valid with the presence of a barrier of fish scales or anything else between the skin and the water. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send blessings and peace upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
