The fifth question of Fatwa No. (3594)
Q5: Allah the Exalted says in the Noble Qur'an, and His saying is truth:[Al-Muzzammil 73:20]
to the end of the verse, and is the recitation mentioned in this verse related to voluntary prayer or obligatory prayer?
A5: The verse:[Al-Muzzammil 73:20] ... to its end, was revealed regarding the night prayer. It is established that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to the one who erred in his prayer: Sahih al-Bukhari 757 This hadith commands him to recite what is easy of the Qur'an after the takbir of ihram, and what is meant by that is al-Fatihah. The command is for obligation, and the prayer is general for both obligatory and voluntary prayer, so that indicates the obligation of reciting al-Fatihah in prayer absolutely. And the hadith of 'Ubadah ibn al-Samit clarified and emphasized that, where the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Jami` at-Tirmidhi 247Sahih (Darussalam) Narrated by al-Bukhari and Muslim and others.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his companions.
Q5: Allah the Exalted says in the Noble Qur'an, and His saying is truth:
so recite what is easy [for you] of the Qur'an. He has known that there will be among you those who are ill
فَاقْرَءُوا مَا تَيَسَّرَ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ عَلِمَ أَنْ سَيَكُونُ مِنْكُمْ مَرْضَىto the end of the verse, and is the recitation mentioned in this verse related to voluntary prayer or obligatory prayer?
A5: The verse:
Indeed, your Lord knows, [O Muhammad], that you stand [in prayer] almost two thirds of the night or half of it or a third of it, and [so do] a group of those with you. And Allah determines [the extent of] the night and the day. He has known that you [Muslims] will not be able to do it and has turned to you in forgiveness, so recite what is easy [for you] of the Qur'an
When you stand for Prayer say Takbir and then recite from the Holy Qur'an (of what you know by heart)
إذا قمت إلى الصلاة فكبر، ثم اقرأ ما تيسر معك من القرآنThere is no Salat for the one who does not recite Fatihatil-Kitab.
لا صلاة لمن لم يقرأ بفاتحة الكتابAnd success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his companions.
