Selling in the Mosque

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The third question of Fatwa No. ( 11967 )
Q3: Many mosques in America contain a prayer hall and attached rooms. Is it permissible to buy and sell in those rooms for the benefit of the mosque? And is it permissible to buy and sell in the hall designated for prayer (the mosque's sanctuary) or to advertise goods and services there?
A3: It is not permissible to buy and sell or to advertise goods in the hall designated for prayer if it is attached to the mosque. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
When you see someone selling or buying in the Masjid then say: 'May Allah not profit your business.'إذا رأيتم من يبيع أو يبتاع في المسجد فقولوا: لا أربح الله تجارتك
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 1321Sahih (Darussalam)
, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
If anyone hears a man crying out in the mosque about something he has lost, he should say: May Allah not restore it to youمن سمع رجلاً ينشد ضالة في المسجد فليقل: لا ردها الله عليك
Sahih Muslim 568a
. As for the rooms, there is a distinction:
If they are within the mosque's enclosure, they have the ruling of the mosque, and the statement regarding them is the same as the statement regarding the hall. However, if they are outside the mosque's enclosure, even if their doors are in it, they do not have the ruling of the mosque; because the house of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in which A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) resided had its door in the mosque, yet it did not have the ruling of the mosque. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
