The second question of Fatwa No. ( 6384 ):
Q2: Are the hadiths narrated by al-Bayhaqi and al-Tabari and al-Daraqutni to be accepted, and what is meant by the science of the generations of narrators?
A2: Whatever has a sound chain of narration and is not anomalous or defective due to a serious flaw, among what these scholars have included in their books, is to be accepted; otherwise, it is not. As for the science of the generations of narrators, "generations" (al-tabaqat) is the plural of "generation" (tabaqah), and its meaning in the terminology of hadith scholars is: a group of narrators who shared the same age and met the same teachers. Thus, the science of the generations of narrators is that which investigates the conditions of the narrators, taking into account their arrangement according to their age and their meeting with the teachers. Among the books written on this is the book [al-Tabaqat] by Imam Muhammad ibn Sa'd, the scribe of al-Waqidi . And success is from Allah. And may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, and his family and his Companions.
