The questioner : The questioner says: O esteemed Shaykh, permanent kohl has appeared among women, especially in girls' schools.
The Shaykh : What?
The questioner : Permanent kohl, which is a set of dyes that lasts for a long period, does this fall under the ruling of tattooing? And what is your guidance for women regarding this?
The Shaykh : This does not fall under tattooing, because tattooing inserts the kohl inside the skin, and it never fades. As for this, it fades. However, I would like people to be aware of these substances: permanent kohl, mehendi, and the like. These contain chemical substances without a doubt, and their effect on the skin, meaning on the skin and hair, is certain, but the effect does not appear until after a period of time. Therefore, I hope our sisters, and I also hope our brothers, will be aware of this point, for these chemical substances must have an effect on the body. As for natural things like ordinary kohl, this does not harm. So let us be aware of this matter. Yes.
