The dead, whether righteous or not, do not hear the speech of humans

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q5: Can the righteous awliya (close friends of Allah) hear the call of one who calls them, and what is the meaning of the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
By Allah, your dead do hear the striking of your sandalsوالله إن موتاكم لتسمع قرع نعالكم
Help me?

A5: The principle is that the dead, whether righteous or not, do not hear the speech of humans; because of the saying of Allah the Exalted:
If you invoke them, they do not hear your supplication; and if they heard, they would not respond to you. And on the Day of Resurrection they will deny your association. And none can inform you like [one] Acquainted [with all matters].
[Fatir 35:14]
and His saying:
but you cannot make hear those in the graves.وَمَا أَنْتَ بِمُسْمِعٍ مَنْ فِي الْقُبُورِ
[Fatir 35:22]
However, Allah may cause the dead to hear the voice of one of His messengers for a wisdom among the wisdoms, as He caused the disbelievers killed at Badr to hear the voice of His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him); as a humiliation and rebuke for them, and an honor for His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him); until the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to his companions when some of them objected to that:
You do not hear what I say any better than they do, but they cannot answer.ما أنتم بأسمع لما أقول منهم ولكنهم لا يستطيعون أن يجيبوا
Sunan an-Nasa'i 2075Sahih (Darussalam)
, and refer to the book [Al-Nubuwwat], the book [Al-Tawassul wa al-Wasilah], and the book [Al-Furqan], all by the Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah for they are sufficient in this matter. As for the dead hearing the striking of the sandals of the mourners where he is placed in his grave
it is a specific hearing established in the text, so nothing is added to it due to its exception from the general evidence indicating that the dead do not hear, as mentioned above. And success is from Allah. And may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his companions.
