How can a person get rid of showing off in worship
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa number ( 8855 ):
Q: If a person wants to learn and act upon what he has learned and teach others this knowledge, he fears that it may be showing off in worship (riya'), so he does not teach anyone anything, but he remembers the hadith of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) which contains a warning and threat for the one who
conceals the knowledge, so he does not know what to do. And if a person wants to distinguish whether a deed he does is for the sake of Allah the Exalted or for showing off in worship (riya'), what should he do? And how can a person get rid of showing off in worship (riya'), and what should he do to be among the sincere in his deeds?
A: Sincere your heart to Allah in your learning, in your acting upon what you have learned, and in spreading the knowledge and teaching it to people. Intend by that the Face of Allah and the Hereafter. Beware of doing that seeking praise and the commendation of people. Do not make your only concern the worldly life and gathering its debris, attaining status, and reaching prominent positions. Indeed, that is seeking the worldly life through the deeds of the Hereafter and making the religion a means to the world, and this is the ruin. But if you direct your face to Allah in your knowledge and your work for Allah alone, and the world comes to you unwillingly, that does not harm you and does not mar your sincerity. That is like the spoils of war for the mujahideen, for they were made lawful for them, and it does not diminish the sincerity of the mujahideen in the path of Allah, even if it diminishes the reward of their jihad in the path of Allah. And success is from Allah. May Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
