Q9: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: And he also said: What is the authenticity of these two hadiths?
J9:The hadith was narrated byal-Hasan ibn Sufyanin his Musnad fromMukhald ibn MalikfromIbrahim ibn Rustamfrom'Umar al-'AbdifromIsma'il ibn Sami'fromAnas ibn Malikwith the wording: It was narrated byal-Aqilifromal-Hasan ibn SufyanfromAnas(may Allah be pleased with him), from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He mentioned ital-'Ajiluniin [Kashf al-Khafa' wa Muzil al-Ilbas] with this wording, and he said: In a narrationof al-Hakim"so keep away from them." End of quote. And in its chainIbrahim ibn Rustam, he saidAbu Hatim: he is not of that standing in truthfulness, and his defect was opinion, and he was mentioned for jurisprudence and worship. AndUthman al-DarimiYahya ibn Ma'inaboutIbrahim ibn Rustamhe said: trustworthy. AndIbn 'Adi : Ibrahim ibn Rustama denouncer of hadith, and he saidal-Daraqutni: well-known, but not strong in his narration fromQays ibn al-Rabi' .
And al-'Uqayli said: He is a Khurasani with much error, and he provided a corroborating narration for that, and Ibn Hibban mentioned him among the trustworthy ones, and said: He makes mistakes. Also in its chain is 'Umar ibn Hafs, Abu Hafs al-'Abdi al-Basri, and the Imam Ahmad said: We left his hadith and abandoned it, and Zakariyya al-Saji said: His hadith is abandoned, and Yahya ibn Ma'in said: Abu Hafs al-'Abdi is nothing, and he said once: He was not trustworthy, and 'Ali ibn 'Abd Allah al-Madini said: He is not trustworthy, and Abu Zur'ah al-Razi said about him: His hadith is weak, I do not know that a significant person narrated from him except one who does not know hadith, and Muslim ibn al-Hajjaj said: Abu Hafs 'Umar ibn Hafs is weak, and Ahmad ibn Shu'ayb al-Nasa'i said: 'Umar ibn Hafs, Abu Hafs al-'Abdi is not trustworthy, and Muhammad ibn Sa'd said: 'Umar ibn Hafs al-'Abdi was weak in hadith among them, they wrote from him then left him. And al-Bukhari said: 'Umar ibn Hafs, Abu Hafs al-'Abdi is not strong, he died in the year 198, and it is said the year 200, and Ibn al-Jawzi said: This hadith is fabricated; Ibrahim is not known, and al-'Abdi: is abandoned. End of quote. This, and due to the severity of its weakness, its corroborating narrations do not suffice to raise it to the level of hasan li ghayrihi. And on the assumption that it is acceptable, it is to be understood as referring to the bad scholars who mix with the rulers to curry favor with them and seek position and prestige with them and hope for the world, and for this reason you find that they do not denounce any wrong from them, rather they beautify the ugly for them and do not deter them from what may be with them of oppression, injustice, and violations of the Shari'ah, so these are the bad inner circle and the storehouse of evil, not for those who mix with them on
the basis of advising them and guiding them to the truth and calling them to act upon it and enjoining good and forbidding evil, so these are an inner circle of good and guidance, and the rulers must have them because of their need for their advice and guidance; to realize the benefit of the Muslim community and the governance of the subjects according to the guidance of Islam. And success is from Allah. And may Allah send prayers upon our Prophet Muhammad, and his family and his Companions and peace.
The scholars are the heirs of the prophets, as long as they do not follow the world
العلماء ورثة الأنبياء، إذا لم يتبعوا السلطانThe scholars are the trustees of the messengers, as long as they do not mix with the ruler or engage with the world. If they mix with the ruler and engage with the world, they have betrayed the messengers, so beware of them
