Ruling on celebrating the Prophet's birthday and the belief that he was created from the light of Allah

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa No. ( 2362 ):
Q: The substance of the question: Issue: In their lands, there is a method promoted among the general Muslim population and some of the elite, where a gathering is held to commemorate the birth of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) every year. First, the reciter reads verses from the Noble Qur'an while seated, and afterwards some scholars speak about the birth of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) until the speech reaches its conclusion, and they say: "Stand up for the time of honoring Ahmad, and standing is part of your creed." Their belief is that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) is not like other human beings, but rather he is a light from the essence of Allah, and that He is present and watching in every place, and that He attends His own birthday gatherings in His essence and hears their words. They stand and say together:

Was the promoted written method promoted in the centuries of the Companions and the Successors (may Allah be pleased with them all) or not? And regarding mentioning the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) with these words and respecting the Messenger (peace be upon him) upon mentioning his birth

A: First: Holding a celebration for the birthday of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) is a religious innovation that contradicts his way (peace and blessings be upon him) and the way of his Rightly Guided Caliphs and his Companions (may Allah be pleased with them all). It is established from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said:
He who did any act for which there is no sanction from our behalf, that is to be rejected.
Sahih Muslim 1718b
, and Shaykh Abdul Aziz ibn Abdullah ibn Baz has a detailed fatwa on [the ruling on celebrating the birthday of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)]. Second: The belief that the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) is not like other human beings, but rather is a light from the light of the essence of Allah, is not a correct belief; because it contradicts the Qur'an. Allah has clarified his humanity and what distinguishes him from other humans by saying, the Exalted:
Say, "I am only a man like you, to whom has been revealed that your god is one God. So whoever would hope for the meeting with his Lord - let him do righteous work and not associate in the worship of his Lord anyone."
[Al-Kahf 18:110]
and humans are created beings. As He also said, the Exalted:
O mankind, fear your Lord, who created you from one soul and created from it its mate and dispersed from both of them many men and womenيَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ اتَّقُوا رَبَّكُمُ الَّذِي خَلَقَكُمْ مِنْ نَفْسٍ وَاحِدَةٍ وَخَلَقَ مِنْهَا زَوْجَهَا وَبَثَّ مِنْهُمَا رِجَالا كَثِيرًا وَنِسَاءً
[An-Nisa 4:1]
, and He said, the Exalted:
O People, if you should be in doubt about the Resurrection, then [consider that] indeed, We created you from dust, then from a sperm-dropيَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ إِنْ كُنْتُمْ فِي رَيْبٍ مِنَ الْبَعْثِ فَإِنَّا خَلَقْنَاكُمْ مِنْ تُرَابٍ ثُمَّ مِنْ نُطْفَةٍ
[Al-Hajj 22:5]
the verse, and He said, the Exalted:
indeed We have sent you as a witness and a bringer of good tidings and a warner. (46) And one who invites to Allah, by His permission, and an illuminating lamp.
[Al-Ahzab 33:45-46]
, as for
Allah (Exalted and Majestic is He) is the First, who has no beginning to His precedence. He clarified this by saying, the Exalted:
He is the First and the Last, the Ascendant and the Intimate, and He is, of all things, Knowing.
[Al-Hadid 57:3]
, and Allah named His Prophet: a light and a shining lamp, because of the guidance and light that Allah sent him with, by which Allah guided those who responded to his call (peace and blessings be upon him), as He said, the Exalted:
There has come to you from Allah a light and a clear Book.
[Al-Ma'idah 5:15]
. Third: The statement that he is present and watching in every place, and that he attends in his essence in every birthday gathering and hears their words, is a false statement. Fourth: As for calling out to him, seeking aid from him, and asking for help and victory from him, this is a type of major shirk (associating partners with Allah) which is not permissible to do with him (peace and blessings be upon him) nor with any other created being; because of the saying of Allah, the Exalted:
And [He revealed] that the masjids are for Allah, so do not invoke with Allah anyone.
[Al-Jinn 72:18]
, and His saying, the Glorious:
And whoever invokes besides Allah another deity for which he has no proof - then his account is only with his Lord. Indeed, the disbelievers will not succeed.
[Al-Mu'minun 23:117]
. And success is from Allah. And may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his companions.
