Prayer in mosques built over graves and supplicating to the dead

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa number ( 6154 ):
Q: I speak to my father, my mother, and some of the people around me about some religious innovations, such as praying in mosques that contain graves or supplicating to the dead and things of that nature. But most of them say to me: "The scholars pray in these mosques and see the people, yet they do not speak out. Do you think you understand more than them? There is no benefit in dealing with them in any way." And if you can, they say: "We found our fathers upon this. Are you the one who will fix the universe?" They count the great scholars who pray in al-Husayn and Sayyidah Zaynab (may Allah be pleased with them and grant them peace) as... I say to them: These people
They are not in Egypt , and even if they were in Egypt , it is not permissible to supplicate to them other than to Allah (Mighty and Majestic) or to make vows to them. But alas, it is as if I am speaking to stones, and they say to me: "O disbeliever," and many other things. I do not know what to do with my father and my mother, and you know their rights? And every time my mother scolds me, I say to her: " Al-Sayyid al-Badawi and his like are people who possess nothing in the dominion of Allah (Mighty and Majestic)." But alas, she says to me: "They are the people of Allah," and things I cannot tell you about, which are major shirk. So what should I do, may Allah reward you with good? Advise us, may Allah reward you.

A: First: It is not permissible to build mosques over graves, and it is not permissible to pray in mosques that were built over a grave or graves. It is not permissible for a person to supplicate to the dead to bring about a benefit or ward off a harm; rather, supplicating to them and calling upon them for aid is major shirk (associating partners with Allah) that takes one out of the fold of Islam, and I seek refuge in Allah. Second: The proof is not in the actions and statements of scholars, because they err and they hit the mark, and many of them are innovators. The proof is in the speech of Allah the Exalted and in the established Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). Third: You must continue to call your parents and those around you to the truth, and you must stand firm upon it and be patient with the harm in it. Perhaps Allah will guide many to the truth and the right path through your hands, and they will become a support for you after they were enemies opposing you, mocking you, and belittling you. Be gentle
with your parents, and treat them with kindness in this world; for Allah the Exalted said:
(14) And We have enjoined upon man [care] for his parents. His mother carried him, [increasing her] in weakness upon weakness, and his weaning is in two years. Be grateful to Me and to your parents; to Me is the [final] destination. (15) But if they endeavor to make you associate with Me that of which you have no knowledge, do not obey them but accompany them in [this] world with appropriate kindness and follow the way of those who turn back to Me [in repentance]. Then to Me will be your return, and I will inform you about what you used to do.
[Luqman 31:14-15]
We ask Allah for you success and steadfastness upon the truth, and that Allah will guide your parents and others through you. Indeed, He is capable of all things. And success is from Allah. And may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
