The Ruling on Praying in Mosques Built over Graves
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
An Egyptian resident in the Kingdom says: O His Eminence the Shaykh, what is the ruling on praying in a mosque that does not contain a grave, but was built over a grave? Is the prayer valid, or is it invalid?
Answer:
All mosques built over graves are not to be prayed in; the prayer in them is invalid, if the grave is present in the mosque, whether the mosque was the first or the grave was the first. But if the mosque was the first, the grave is dug up and moved to the cemetery. As for if the mosque was the last, built over the grave, the mosque is demolished, and it is not built over graves. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:Sahih Muslim 529, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Sahih Muslim 532, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade plastering the grave, sitting on it, or building on it.
