Traveling to Madinah to Pray in al-Masjid al-Nabawi

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa No. ( 2506 ):
Q: He wants to visit al-Masjid al-Nabawi al-Sharif in al-Madinah al-Munawwarah while he is in Makkah and asks whether that is permissible or not?
A: It is permissible for a Muslim to travel to Madinah to pray in al-Masjid al-Nabawi , and indeed it is recommended; because prayer in it is better than a thousand prayers in any other place except al-Masjid al-Haram . And if he is in Makkah , his prayer in al-Masjid al-Haram is better than his traveling to pray in al-Masjid al-Nabawi ; because prayer in al-Masjid al-Haram is better than a hundred thousand prayers in any other place. It is not permissible for him to travel to Madinah for the purpose of visiting the grave of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) or other graves; because it is established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said:
One should not undertake journeys except to three mosques: al-Masque al-Haram (in Makkah ), the Aqsa mosque, or this mosque (in Madinah).لا تشد الرحال إلاَّ إلى ثلاثة مساجد: المسجد الحرام، ومسجدي هذا، والمسجد الأقصى
Bulugh al-Maram 5:58
. It was narrated by the Imam Ahmad and al-Bukhari and Muslim and Abu Dawud and al-Nasa'i and Ibn Majah . And success is from Allah. And may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
