Taking pictures of worshippers in congregation and pictures of children when they recite the Qur'an
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The eighth question of Fatwa No. ( 2922 ):
Q8: Some scholars in Britain take pictures of worshippers in congregation and pictures of children when they recite the Qur'an; because if these pictures are published in magazines and newspapers, non-Muslims may be influenced by them and desire to learn about Islam and Muslims.
A8: Depicting beings with souls is forbidden, whether the pictures are of a human or another animal, and whether they are of a worshipper, a reciter of the Qur'an, or anyone else; due to the authentic hadiths established regarding the prohibition of this, and it is
not permissible to publish pictures in newspapers, magazines, or letters, even if they are of Muslims, those in a state of ablution, or reciting the Qur'an, in the hope of spreading Islam and encouraging people to know it and enter it; because it is not permissible to take forbidden things as a means to convey and spread Islam, and the lawful means of conveying the message are many, so one should not turn away from them to others that Allah has forbidden. The practice of photography in Islamic countries is not a proof of its permissibility; rather, it is an abomination; due to the authentic evidence regarding this, it is necessary to denounce photography in accordance with the evidence. And success is from Allah. And may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
