Tying a Thread in Hajj Based on the Belief That It Cures Illness

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The second question of Fatwa No. ( 3785 ):
Q2: My sister performed Hajj with my father and some of the people from our town. On the day of 'Arafah , a woman of Iranian nationality came to them with a silk thread and said to her and the other women with her: “Whoever among you is performing her first Hajj, let her tie a knot in this thread for me.” The eldest among them, who had performed Hajj before, said, “Tie it for her.” So they tied it. The question is: Is the Hajj of the one who tied this thread valid? The Iranian woman says that she has a sick man who will be cured by this knot. My sister and the others did not inform my father so that he could prevent her or not prevent her, because she was shy, as were the others with her?
A2: This act is not permissible. If the one who did it was ignorant, she is excused for her ignorance. If she knew that it is not permissible, then she has committed a sin, and she must repent and seek forgiveness, and not return to such an act. As for her Hajj, it is valid, if Allah wills. And success is from Allah. May Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
